Day 73: Tough Stuff

Flat and studded

Each summer, or each season, really, one or two shoe shapes take hold of our attention and end up on everyone’s feet. Inevitably they start at a higher price point until everyone knocks them off…pardon me, does their ‘interpretation’ of them. This black pair from Steve Madden falls into the mix. I’ve seen the same basic shape, with different leathers, sole colors and details from Nordstrom to Target and everywhere inbetween. I generally avoid something if I see it everywhere but I liked them in black with the dark sole and the studs toughen them up a bit. And for people averse to the too-scarce sandle or overly-strappy gladiator, I think these have a flattering shoe-to-foot ratio. Is this familiar tune all played out, or could they still be a hit?

prov⋅e⋅nance

[provuh-nuhns, -nahns] –noun

place or source of origin: The provenance of the shoes has yet to be determined.

Date of Purchase: Spring 2009

Circumstances: Another of the 4, yes 4, pairs I bought when shopping with dear cute Kelly at Nordstrom Rack, same as  Day 67’s gold flats. She was on a bit of a shopping hiatus and after having little luck in her own aisles of shoe racks, helped me hunt down several pairs for myself. I was looking for an updated pair of black sandals to possibly replace  Day 63 (although you have lovingly voted much in favor to keep them, so they’re safe!) and found these. Again, I like the shape, dark sole and studs. We narrowed the field of 7 or 8 pairs and these made the cut.

Compliment Meter: 3. A few friendly compliments. The studs are a popular feature.

Comfort: A great pair for Friday foot fatigue. No complaints. Overall, a 9 out of 10.

Worn with: Navy/white blouson short sleeve top from Forever 21, (one of my favorite ‘fat’ tops) and faded cuffed Seven jeans.

Thoughts: I, for one, am over the mania for the high, high heel. Too many career women look like a herd of fashion beasts, aping one another in impractical shoes.” ~Vogue editor André Leon Talley

Do these babies stay in the rotation or get dumped into the Shoe Graveyard?
