Day 56: Holey Heel!
May 16, 2009 § 2 Comments
These black slingbacks give some respite to my tired soles. This pair, from Banana Republic are kitten-heeled with a pointy toe, not quite flat or comfortable enough to be a heel hangover remedy. They do aid in the ‘pants that have shrunk and can no longer be worn with high heels’ dilema. As you are aware, I am a fan of slingback heels and black is forever a staple. The holes on the shoe at one time were quite charming, I’m convinced, giving a dose of detail to an otherwise standard shoe. However, I am no longer convinced this embellishment is necessary or even good. These haven’t seen daylight in a while and that’s really why. Are they being unfairly condemned or do they deserve eternal closet-banishment?
[prov–uh-nuhns, -nahns] –noun
place or source of origin: The provenance of the shoes has yet to be determined.
Date of Purchase: Spring 2006
Circumstances: It is difficult not living in the same state as any of my 4 sisters, but the upside is I get to travel to exciting places to visit them. Like Cincinnati, Ohio. One thing that IS exciting about going to visit Rebecca in Cincinnati is the Banana/Gap/Old Navy warehouse clearance center. I always drag Rebecca there when I make the trek up north and she appeases my shopping fetish by enduring a few hours of digging with me. (We learned to bring snacks to stay sane). Many of the goods are damaged, hence the digging, but real steals can be found here, like Day 5’s black heels. I found this pair on one such trip, in a large laundry basket-like bin. I really did like the holes at the time, and for $15, they could not be passed up.
Compliment Meter: 1. Nothing of note, other than, ‘oh those are interesting.’ Hmm. Comment of the day, from Bethany, ‘like colanders for your feet!‘ Shoe confidence level: Low.
Comfort: Comfortable with the low heel and slingback. Rubbed the outer edge of the feet slightly by day’s end.. Overall, an 8.5 out of 10.
Worn with: Zebra print short sleeved sweater t-shirt, pink skinny belt, navy wide leg trousers with a subtle pinstripe. Mix and match.
Thoughts: “I am realizing that great personal style is made up of a certain percentage of “always” items and methods, mixed with a certain percentage of “sometimes” fashions, and a certain percentage of “nevers”.” ~ Scott Schuman aka The Sartorialist
Do these babies stay in the rotation or get dumped into the Shoe Graveyard?
