Day 51: Flat to the Point
May 11, 2009 § 1 Comment
After the massive heel hangover caused by standing on my feet all week and Day 50’s heels, I resorted to flats. This pair, by BCBG, are like that pair of jeans you just can’t seem to part with; comfortable, safe and requiring little thought. These flats have been around for a while and have often been the solution to my age-old problem of long-leggedness and not quite long enough inseams. One generally can’t go wrong with a pointy toe and trousers and these have dressed up pants that otherwise would have been discarded or sentenced to a marraige of flat sandals or flip flops. Let’s cut to the chase: I like the slingback, but is the kitten-heeled pointy toe just over at this point?
[prov–uh-nuhns, -nahns] –noun
Date of Purchase: Spring 2006
Circumstances: This shopping experience is rather foggy in my memory, proving that no, I do not remember a specific story for each pair of shoes…just most of them. I know I found them at TJ Maxx or Marshall’s. To this day I’ve had the problem of finding pants and jeans that are long enough, or pairs that weren’t eventually forced into the ‘flats only’ category due to shrinkage. These flats were a beacon of hope: cute, nearly flat and just a bitmore interesting with the slingback shape. I’ve had them ever since and wore them often enough to require repairing the pointy toes.
Compliment Meter: 1. Nothing of note, really. The concensus was that the slingback kept the shape a little more current and classic. Shoe confidence level: Medium.
Comfort: Comfortable and nicely broken in, no complaints. Overall, an 8.5 out of 10.
Worn with: Heather grey v-neck ‘track t-shirt’ from American Apparel (I could live in this shirt every day!), a few layers of delicate chain necklaces and my Hudson bootcuts.
Thoughts: “A buckle is a great addition to any old shoe.” ~ Old Irish saying
Do these babies stay in the rotation or get dumped into the Shoe Graveyard?
